Window Management

Sliprail provides enhanced window management features designed to address pain points in native systems and improve your operational efficiency on both Windows and macOS in a unified and simplified manner.

Why Use Sliprail for Window Management?

While modern operating systems offer window management, the native experience can be lacking, especially during intensive use and cross-platform work:

  • Inconsistent Behavior: On Windows, the maximization and snapping behaviors when using Win + Arrow Keys can be inconsistent, making shortcut results unpredictable.
  • Inefficient Shortcuts: Default window operations (like closing a window) may require unnatural hand movements.
  • Cross-Platform Inconsistency: Switching between Windows and macOS requires remembering two different sets of shortcut logic, preventing the development of unified muscle memory.

Sliprail solves these problems by providing a set of intuitive, predictable, and cross-platform consistent shortcuts.

How to Enable

The window management feature is disabled by default. To enable it, go to "Settings" and turn on the switch:

  • Managing Windows with Sliprail

On Windows, you can also turn on the following switches on-demand:

  • Close windows using Win + Q
  • Minimize the current window using Win + M

Feature Introduction

Once enabled, you will enjoy a more fluid window control experience.

Windows Support

  • Win + Q to Close Window: Provides a more comfortable and faster way to close the current window, reducing hand strain.
  • Win + M to Minimize Current Window: Quickly minimizes the current window to keep your desktop tidy.
  • Predictable Window Snapping: Win + Left/Right Arrow consistently snaps the window to half-screen, regardless of its previous state, ensuring consistent behavior.
  • Intuitive Maximization: Win + Up Arrow always maximizes the current window, eliminating the frustration of accidentally entering quarter-screen mode.

macOS Support

  • Command + Left/Right Arrow: Snaps the window to the left or right half of the screen.
  • Command + Up Arrow: Maximizes the window.

By mapping the Command key on Mac to the Win key on Windows, Sliprail achieves a logically consistent cross-platform experience, allowing your muscle memory to transfer seamlessly between systems.
